How the R&D Center provides control over the performance of cleanroom lifting systems

With the opening of its Research & Development Center (R&D), Mennens Cleanroom Cranes (MCC) now has a dedicated environment where cleanroom lifting systems are developed, tested and validated under controlled conditions.

Bringing these activities together in one location provides deeper insight into system performance, behaviour and component interaction. This directly supports informed design decisions and effective project execution.

Training at MCC

From design decisions to proven performance

In cleanroom projects, systems must do more than meet specifications on paper. Their performance must be demonstrable under defined conditions.

Within the R&D Center, lifting systems are developed and tested for performance, loads and behaviour. This provides insight into how systems perform under different conditions and makes it possible to validate design decisions in advance and adjust them where necessary.

For project managers, this results in greater predictability during execution. For engineers, it provides a solid foundation for engineering and optimisation.

A practical environment for testing and training

The R&D Center combines testing facilities with training capabilities in one integrated environment.

The training area accommodates groups of up to 30 people and is used to train and certify employees, partners and contractors. The focus is on installation, operation, service and maintenance of cleanroom lifting systems. This hands-on approach ensures participants are well prepared for work in the field.

The R&D Center includes a crane structure with modular crane components that can be configured for different system setups. This makes it possible to simulate and test a wide range of configurations, aligned with specific project and customer requirements. Systems can be verified in advance and optimised for real-world application.

The direct link with the R&D office ensures that testing insights are quickly translated into improvements in design and execution.

Validated systems, fewer surprises during executio

By bringing engineering, testing and training together in one place, systems are validated before being applied in projects.
This reduces the risk of unexpected issues during installation and operation and contributes to more efficient project execution.

The focus is on reliability, compliance and meeting international standards, supported by test results and practical experience.

With its Research & Development Center, Mennens Cleanroom Cranes provides an environment where systems are not only developed, but also thoroughly tested and prepared for real-world application.
For project teams, this results in better control during both preparation and execution, and systems that perform as intended.

What is the lifting range of a cleanroom crane?

Lifting a load is the base of any lifting solution in a cleanroom. To define the right lifting solution, several aspects need to be considered. Two key concepts play a role; the lifting area and the lifting range. How these are defined and applied depends on the type of crane used.

Stainless steel vs coated steel in cleanroom cranes

Material selection in cleanroom cranes is often underestimated. Choosing the wrong material can introduce contamination risks, increase system weight or result in unnecessary costs in highly controlled environments.

The choice between stainless steel and coated steel may seem straightforward at first, but is highly dependent on the application. Material selection directly impacts cleanliness, contamination risk, costs and process reliability in controlled environments.

Stopping systems in cleanroom cranes

A cleanroom crane does not operate in unlimited space. Its movement is confined to a clearly defined lifting range determined by the runway structure and the mechanical design of the system. That range defines where loads may be transported and positioned.

Protecting those boundaries is essential. For that reason, cleanroom cranes are equipped with dedicated stopping systems at the ends of the runway.
